The founders of Dead Reckoning Coffee grew up commercial fishing in the cold, unforgiving waters of Southeast Alaska, where coffee wasn’t a luxury — it was part of survival. Long days on deck, overnight watches in treacherous seas, freezing rain, mechanical breakdowns, and heavy weather taught them the value of discipline, resilience, and staying sharp when it mattered most.
Out there, coffee meant more than caffeine. It meant focus before sunrise. Warmth in the middle of a storm. A few quiet minutes before another long haul. It became part of the rhythm of life on the water.
Dead Reckoning Coffee was created to honor that way of life and the people who choose difficult paths on purpose.
The name comes from the old maritime navigation method of dead reckoning — plotting your course through experience, instinct, and determination when there are no clear markers ahead. That philosophy still matters today.
